AFCON 2027 Tanzania
Host city: Dar es Salaam
Tanzania brings the tournament's biggest safari names: Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Kilimanjaro, and its best beaches. This Tanzania AFCON travel guide covers host-city basics and how to build an AFCON Tanzania safari around the fixture list.
Arriving and getting around
Julius Nyerere International in Dar es Salaam handles most arrivals; Kilimanjaro International (JRO) is the gateway to the northern safari circuit. Domestic carriers link Dar, Arusha, the Serengeti airstrips, and Zanzibar several times daily.
Where to stay
Masaki and Oyster Bay in Dar es Salaam put you near the waterfront, restaurants, and the ferry terminal for Zanzibar. Arusha is the base for northern-circuit safaris if you're flying in early.
Things to do between matches
The National Museum and Village Museum, a dhow trip to Bongoyo Island, Kariakoo market, or a fast ferry to Zanzibar's Stone Town for an overnight in the old city.
Tanzania safari before or after AFCON
The northern circuit: Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti needs four to seven days and rewards every one of them. Fly from the Serengeti to Zanzibar directly to finish on the coast rather than backtracking through Arusha.
Practicalities
Most visitors need a visa (e-visa available in advance). The currency is the Tanzanian shilling, park fees are high and usually quoted separately, and Zanzibar requires its own mandatory travel insurance for visitors.
