Tour Overview

This trek follows the Budadiri trail to Wagagai Peak, Uganda’s second-highest point. You hike through forest, moorland, and alpine zones with overnight camps on the mountain. This route suits experienced hikers seeking a steady challenge and wide scenery.

Day 1. Kampala to Budadiri. Hike to Sasa Camp


Early transfer from Kampala to Budadiri via Mbale. Park registration and briefing. Start the hike through farmland and bamboo forest. Steep ascent to Sasa River Camp. Dinner and overnight at camp.

Day 2: Sasa Camp to Mude Cave Camp


Breakfast at camp. Continue hiking through the montane forest and moorland. Reach Mude Cave Camp in the afternoon. Rest and a short acclimatisation walk. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3. Wagagai Summit. Return to Mude Camp


Early start for the summit push. Trek across open moorland to Wagagai Peak. Time at the summit for views and photos. Descend back to Mude Cave Camp. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4. Descend to Budadiri. Transfer to Mbale


After breakfast, descend through the bamboo forest to the Budadiri trailhead. Meet your vehicle and transfer to Mbale town. Evening at leisure. Overnight in Mbale.

Day 5: Mbale to Kampala


Breakfast. Drive back to Kampala via Jinja. Optional stop at Sipi Falls if arranged. Arrival in Kampala late afternoon.
